à à à à à In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play Romeo and Juliet the characters Nurse and Friar Laurence are to blame for Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s Problems. à à à à à The way Friar Laurence encouraged Romeo and Juliet to get Married, The way the Nurse is contradictory in her views of Romeo and Paris, When Friar Laurence secretly married them, the way the Nurse is secretive about the affair and does not tell the Capuletââ¬â¢s or the Montagueââ¬â¢s, when Laurence gave Juliet the sleeping potion, the way Laurence believed he was doing the right thing without thinking of the consequences, and the way Laurence leaves Julietââ¬â¢s Tomb when he hears the watch coming, all combine to result in the lovers death. à à à à à In act II scene III, Romeo goes to see Friar Laurence to tell him that he no longer loves Rosaline, but has fell in love with Juliet. This amazes Friar Laurence, but he promises to marry them, à à à à à ââ¬Å"O, she knew well à à à à à Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell. à à à à à But come, young waverer, come, go with me. à à à à à In one respect Iââ¬â¢ll assistant be. à à à à à For this alliance may so happy prove à à à à à To turn your householdââ¬â¢s rancour to pure love.â⬠(Friar Laurence, Act II Scene III, sentence 87-92) à à à à à By doing this, Friar Laurence has gone behind Capulet and Montagueââ¬â¢s back, and started the momentum behind the loverââ¬â¢s tragedy. à à à à à In a few parts of the play, the Nurse speaks of Romeo and Paris with Juliet, each time she has a different view on who Juliet should be with, à à à à à LADY CAPULET à à à à à ââ¬Å"Marry, that ââ¬Ëmarryââ¬â¢ is the very theme à à à à à I came to talk of. Tell me daughter Juliet, à à à à à How stands your dispositions to be married?â⬠à à à à à à à à à à JULIET à à à à à ââ¬Å"It is an honour that I dream not ofâ⬠à à à à à NURSE à à à à à ââ¬Å"An honour! Were not I thine only nurse, à à à à à I would say thou hadst sucked wisdom from thy à à à à à Teat.â⬠à à à à à LADY CAPULET... ...p;à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Exit Friar Whatââ¬â¢s here? A cup, closed in my true loves hand? Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end. O churl! Drunk all, and left no friendly drop To help me after? I will kiss thy lips. Haply some poison yet doth hang on them To make me die with a restorative. She kisses him Thy lips are warm!â⬠WATCHMAN ââ¬Ëwithinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Lead, boy. Which way? JULIET ââ¬Å"Yea, noise? Then Iââ¬â¢ll be brief. O happy dagger! She snatches Romeos dagger This is thy sheath, there rust, and let me die à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à She stabs herself and fallsâ⬠(Act V Scene III, sentence 144-176) à à à à à In this act, Rome and Juliet die. This is brought about by the Friars plan to help Romeo and Juliet escape to Mantua, which failed. à à à à à Without the meddling from the Nurse and Friar Laurence, Romeo and Juliet might not have died. Friar Laurence and the Nurse are responsible for Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s death. Bibliography William Shakespeare - Romeo And Juliet - Complete Edition

Kfc Pizzahut Supply Chain
KFC/Pizza Hut makes efficiency gains with Zap Business Intelligence Businesses become more agile, responsive and performance-focused Situation There are over 120 KFC and Pizza Hut outlets in Singapore, employing about 5,000 staff. Both brands also offer Singapore-wide delivery services. In the face of rapid business growth, KFC/Pizza Hut found that their business intelligence (BI) system was unable to cope. It fared badly when meeting corporate reporting requirements, benchmarking store performance, and reducing the time and costs spent on day-to-day reporting across multiple business systems. We faced daily challenges in producing timely reports and complex analysis across our many restaurants and product lines to make informed decisions,â⬠said Mr Tan Teng Sern, System Analyst with KFC/ Pizza Hut in Singapore. For example, day-to-day operational reporting is required to calculate the pay to daily-rated workers like delivery staff. Using the old BI system, it could take restaur ant managers hours at the end of each day to tally the number of deliveries that each rider had made, resulting in restaurant managers working overtime, and riders waiting for their payment. The system was also difficult to use and rigid in design. Work which could take up to a few days every month also went into generating reports to meet corporate requirements. The problem in generating timely reports also hindered KFC/ Pizza Hutââ¬â¢s ability to respond quickly to changes in the business environment. What they needed was a solution that would let them set different objectives for different departments, and monitor each departmentââ¬â¢s performance. Case Study Name: KFC & Pizza Hut Overview: KFC and Pizza Hut are major players in the local food and beverage market.Since establishing the first KFC outlet in Singapore in 1977, the chain has grown to over 120 outlets employing about 5,000 staff. KFC/Pizza Hut faced difficulties when meeting corporate reporting requirements, benc hmarking store performance, and reducing the time and costs spent on reporting across multiple business systems. Products Used: Zap Business Intelligence ââ¬Å"Improving reporting and analysis across our restaurants and head offices offers considerable gains in efficiency and will enable our businesses to become more agile, responsive and performance-focused. Mr Tan Teng Sern System Analyst KFC/Pizza Hut Solution KFC/Pizza Hut embarked on a search for an affordable, high-performance and easy to maintain business intelligence and data warehousing solution. ââ¬Å"We could not afford to have a data warehouse project that would take months or years to implement,â⬠said Mr Tan. ââ¬Å"With the scale of hundreds of users, it would have been very costly for us to adopt most of the available solutions in the market. â⬠These requirements led KFC/Pizza Hut to Zap and its solution, Zap Business Intelligence. We chose Zap Business Intelligence because it offers powerful functionali ty and proven scalability, and yet is easy to install, maintain, and use,â⬠said Mr Tan. The deployment aced its test with KFC/Pizza Hut when Zap was rolled out in the production environment. Here, users wanted to incorporate other data sources to complete the corporate data warehouse, including Pointof-Sale, Marketing, HR/Payroll, and Supply Chain Management. ââ¬Å"With Zapââ¬â¢s help, we built the data warehouse, OLAP cubes and business analytics content for the delivery service business in 10 days. After two months of parallel run and testing, we went live with the Zap Business Intelligence in September 2009,â⬠said Mr Tan. The Zap solution supports close to 400 users, including restaurant managers, operations managers, and back office directors. It brings together key BI capabilities including dashboards, analysis, reporting, KPIs and scorecards, all in a user-friendly web portal. ââ¬Å"We chose Zap Business Intelligence because it offers powerful functionality and proven scalability, and yet is easy to install, maintain, and use,â⬠Mr Tan Teng Sern System Analyst KFC/Pizza HutBenefits Zapââ¬â¢s Business Intelligence has resulted in many significant benefits for KFC/Pizza Hut. ââ¬Å"Improving reporting and analysis across our restaurants and head offices offers considerable gains in efficiency and will enable our businesses to become more agile, responsive and performance-focused,â⬠said Mr Tan. The BI system contributes to greater business agility in several ways: 1) Optimizing marketing spend: The system allows KFC/Pizza Hut to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, enabling immediate adjustment of these campaigns to target them more effectively. ) Enabling strategic restaurant planning: By analyzing sales and demand, KFC/Pizza Hut can conduct more effective strategic planning to open the right restaurant at the right location at the right time. 3) Enhancing customer service: The system analyzes delivery punctualit y, and correlates it with parameters such as restaurant and rider, allowing management to make decisions to fine-tune operations, and improve customer service. 4) Improving sales: The analysis of point-of-sale data enables KFC/Pizza Hut to measure the effectiveness of their package deals in order to improve sales.Cost savings Mr Tan estimated that KFC/Pizza Hut will gain a return on investment from Zap Business Intelligence within 12 months, particularly in reducing the amount of staff time spent on daily reporting. The Zap solution has resulted in cost savings in several areas, including improving labor efficiency. With Zap, the time taken for restaurant managers to check reports has been reduced from 30 minutes to about five minutes, and while operation managers and administrators used to spend about an hour a day retrieving reports, this can now be done almost instantly. This has resulted in significant labor cost savings. Another cost saving measure has been reducing the reliance on IT. ââ¬Å"Improving reporting and analysis across our restaurants and head offices offers considerable gains in efficiency and will enable our businesses to become more agile, responsive and performance-focused,â⬠Mr Tan Teng Sern System Analyst KFC/Pizza Hut www. zaptechnology. com à © 2010 Zap Technology ââ¬â v0510

Managing Growth Essay
Sunflower Nutraceuticals (SNC) operates on a very tight cash flow. The past has not been had resources to stay above the water. SNC has been looking at some new projects and for the past nine years the projects and their impact on SNCââ¬â¢s financial impact has been tracked. In the first phase of these new projects two were applied to SNC. Acquiring a New Customer Atlantic Wellness was acquired as a new customer. Sales were increased significantly which in return also increased accounts receivable and inventory balances. This was a good decisions because as sales increase so does income. Additional accounts receivable and inventory can cause more overhead but can always be controlled. Leveraging Supplier Discounts With a new customer top-line growth was achieved. With the added expenses of more accounts receivable and inventory needs the cash flow for these three years was drained. It was however, offset by an added increase in EBIT due to favorable contracts. For the next three years two more projects were acquired. After the rapid increase in top-line growth and the increases it showed, SNC decided to pursue a new project that put SNCââ¬â¢s products into Mega-Mart Inc. retail. This once again increased top-line growth which drives sales higher, it consistently strained the EBIT. Developing a Private Label Since retail has immersed for SNC a private label seemed logical to stand out for consumers. Starting the branding process for SNC. The sale of the private label drove EBIT up again balancing out the next three years. The final three years and the final projects were critical. Since one project after another has off-set each other there is still a need to increase SNCââ¬â¢s cash flow and sales. High-Risk Customer Acquiring a high risk customer was a decision made with careful consideration. Since EBIT and net income were stable, sales was the next thing that needed to increase. Taking on Midwest Miracles increased the sales volume but the impact on the accounts receivables were large. Now there is talk in the business circle that Midwest Miracles is looking to file chapter 11 bankruptcy. This now leaves SNC with the option of possibly writing off a portion of the accounts receivable that has not been collected. Decisions The projects that were adapted by SNC showed that the financial resources can be forecasted and balanced with the right amount of research. Along with the increases and stabilizations SNCââ¬â¢s available credit line that was negative in 2012 when the financial restructure projects started remained steady through 2021. The total current assets also increased each year proving to SNCââ¬â¢s shareholders that a rapid increase in the value of the company has happened. Working Capital Effects ââ¬Å"In business accounting, working capital is a benchmark measure of your companyââ¬â¢s ability to meet its short-term obligations. Itââ¬â¢s calculated by taking your businessââ¬â¢ current assets and subtracting its current liabilities. Current assets are those that can or will be converted to cash in the next year. The major current assets are cash, accounts receivable and inventory. Current liabilities are obligations that must be fulfilled within the next year. For a typical company, the major current liabilities are accounts payable, accrued liabilities (such as wages earned by workers but not yet paid, or rent expenses incurred but not paid), and debt paymentsâ⬠(Chron, 2012). SNCââ¬â¢s total liabilities were up after the nine years of projects. Reference The Effect of Revenue Increase on Working Capital. (2014). Retrieved from

America in Black and White
Langston Hughes was an important and defining figure of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920ââ¬â¢s up to the 1930ââ¬â¢s, a decade of great activity in the African-American arts scene. Hughes was known for the rhythm, jazz and blues, of his poetry. The theme of his poetry is mostly on the life experiences of the African-American. In his Theme for English B, Hughes expresses the reality in the disparity ââ¬â of being Black among Whites. In the first stanza, the professorââ¬â¢s assignment was specific and defined which was to write a page about oneself. It was a deviation from the usual rigid English lessons, like classical poems.Writing about oneself was more loose and relaxed. Hughes used iambic quatrain to taunt the rigidity of the instruction. Hughes made it known from the beginning that student and professor were different. The student thought the assignment over, and wondered if it was easy writing about oneself. Hughes used the free-verse style on rest of the poem to c ontrast the earlier quatrain. Alliteration and Assonance in Line 7, ââ¬Å"I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salemâ⬠had the jazz sounds of Harlem. Here, Hughes bared that the student was Black and therefore the professor was White. When he combined two vowel sounds in Line 10, ââ¬Å"I am the only colored student in my classâ⬠Hughes indicated how strongly the student felt about being Black. Hughes used metaphors to denote Black with Harlem, 8th Avenue, 7th Street and Harlem Branch Y, places where there was heavy African-American population. There was a noticeable change in the order of the [I] from Lines 6, 7, 8 and 10, such as, ââ¬Å"I wonderâ⬠¦ / I am twenty-two â⬠¦ / I went to school there â⬠¦ / I am the only â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ to Lines 12-14 ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ then I cross â⬠¦/ â⬠¦ and I come â⬠¦ / â⬠¦ where I come â⬠¦ /. â⬠The [I] used to start off the lines, they now end off the lines.Such reversal was a symbolical of the place the Black took in society. The symbolism of coming from African-American places going upwards to the school on the hill and taking the elevator to his room at the Y told of the studentââ¬â¢s efforts to reach the level of the Whites. It must be recalled in Line 6 that the student had doubts ââ¬Å"I wonder if itââ¬â¢s that simple? â⬠referring to the assignment. Now at Line 16, he was sure that ââ¬Å"It is not easy to know what is true for you or me. â⬠Hughes at this point now came with the ââ¬Å"youâ⬠together with the ââ¬Å"me.â⬠With ââ¬Å"I feel and see and hear, Harlem, I hear you:â⬠ââ¬Å"hear you, hear me ââ¬â we two ââ¬â you me, talk on this pageâ⬠(Lines18-19) the student was not just writing about himself but of the whole African-American people. The sound of the assonance was strong like the clamor for equality. In Lines 21-26, the student cried out that he, in many ways, was like a white man with the same wants and aspira tions in life. Hughesââ¬â¢ metaphors for gifts like ââ¬Å"pipeâ⬠to mean growing old, ââ¬Å"Bessieâ⬠for Blues, ââ¬Å"Bopâ⬠for Jazz, and ââ¬Å"Bachâ⬠for the classical and Baroque music. The student wrote that the African-American also wanted the things the White man enjoyed. Hughes subtly presented the issue of racism by completely leaving out the assonance, instead, the student was introspective when he asked ââ¬Å"So will my page be colored that I write? â⬠(Line 27). Despite the absence of the assonance, Hughes was still able to convey what the student wanted ââ¬â to experience life, like the Whites do, until he is old when he smokes his pipe and listen to good music. The professor and the student were a contrast from the start, with conflicts in between.Hughes found a common ground in Lines 31-33 ââ¬Å"You are white ââ¬â / yet part of me, as I am part of you. / Thatââ¬â¢s American. â⬠He followed it up with Lines 37-38 ââ¬Å"As I learn from you, I guess you learn from me ââ¬ââ⬠Hughes tried to make his readers see that the equalizer comes in both their being Americans. Theme for English B gives a very light treatment, being a free verse, of a compelling issue such as racism. The readers are able to internalize the poem through its rhythm. The tone of the poem is reflective as it is assertive with the use of the poetic voice of ââ¬Å"Iâ⬠coming as it is from someone who has a personal stake on the issue.Hughes was excellent in the use of a page for a composition in an English B class, where the student would use black ink to write on a white sheet of writing paper. The symbolisms accurately portrayed the issue in the poem ââ¬â that Blacks and Whites despite their difference should not be opposing colors of America. They will both write history and define their future as Americans. References Hughes, L. (1951). Theme for English B. Case study 2- A Taxing Issue Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
2- A Taxing Issue - Case Study Example In fact, the government should promote incentives for those who increase their annual earning beyond a certain limit. I argue that for one to increase their annual earnings beyond a particular mark implies more job creations and more life to the economy. The government should also focus on cutting expenditure in sectors like defense to avail more funds for development. It is not fair to have different tax rates for different income groups. Discriminatory taxation based on oneââ¬â¢s income group leads to reduced private investments. Most private investments consider profitability of their businesses. I therefore argue that increasing tax those with higher incomes will lessen the appetite for private investments. The government should only use a uniform taxation system. When running a small business, many financial factors shall influence in my hiring. The tax rate is arguably one of the main financial factors to consider when hiring (Kennedy 69). In addition, I shall consider funding and operational costs (Kennedy 207). In funding, equity versus debt considered where debt is loan and equity is the capital one

Management at J.C. Penney Company, Inc Research Paper
Management at J.C. Penney Company, Inc - Research Paper Example The company deals in conventional merchandise such as beds and beddings, home appliances and furniture, women and menââ¬â¢s clothing and baby layette, handbags and accessories, gifts, jewelry and watches (Carsky, 1994). JCPenney also leases its premises for departments such as portrait studios, optical centers, Seattleââ¬â¢s Best Coffee, Sephora, salons and jewelry repair. The fact that JCPenney has been around for more than a century definitely means that the organization has undergone several changes in its styles and approaches to management, as shall be seen in the ensuing discourse. One of the key changes that accompanied JCPenneyââ¬â¢s management style has been the overlooking of its security of tenure which it has always extended to its management executives. Over time, JCPenney has always accorded its shareholders, employees and its directors a guarantee of uninterrupted period of at least two years. However, this trend was broken once after the appointment of Ron Johnson as the chief executive officer (CEO). Johnson had served Apple Store and was replacing Mike Ullman who is reputed for having run down JCPenney for seven uninterrupted years. However, when JCPenney saw that two years after Johnsonââ¬â¢s absorption, the company was seriously plummeting in profits, sales and stock price, Johnson was dismissed (Slywotzky and Weissel, 2002). JCPenney has also reviewed its strategies to ward off the risks that it is facing and to lessen operational costs. For the first in its history, JCPenney intends to close 33 of its stores in 2014 and thereby joining McDonaldââ¬â¢s Macyââ¬â¢s, Barnes & Noble and Family Dollar league. With the cost of operation having been attenuated, it is expected that the company will be able to use its plough back profits to reinvigorate itself. From a personal standpoint, JCPenney was not properly managed, though there is room for improvement. The proneness of JCPenney to mismanagement is illustrated by how fast the company has replaced

Fashion Retailer Zara Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Fashion Retailer Zara - Assignment Example The essay "Fashion Retailer Zara" discovers the marketing strategy of Zara. Zara designs all its clothes and majority of it is in Spain (about 80 percent). It focuses on shorter response time, which enables it to meet the constantly shifting fashion trends. However such moves do not take months, but this swift process is complete within in 30 days. And with this short time, Zara identifies the trends, design it clothes, supply it to all its stores. In short it means catching up a trend when it is in vogue in the fashion circles, rather than discusses it for months and then ask the overseas producers to work on it. On the contrary, even the smallest retailer takes up. Three to four months research, thinking, discussion for any such project, while bigger retailer take up to 9 months to produce to similar result. When the analysts start to forecast the fashion trends, Zara moves ahead for next trend. The trend identification is done through extensive research process in which every one in the organisation is involved. In the manufacturing environment, Zaraââ¬â¢s product development teams fashion shows and catwalks and exhibition and then translate the latest fashionable ideas into products. Zara development teams visits universities and clubs to track the customerââ¬â¢s preferences and choices and understand the changing consumerââ¬â¢s needs. There are also teams in the international arena who also observe the latest fashion trends and report to the head office. Zara mangers also help in tracking customer.... t the Zara mangers also help in tracking customer demands through sales analysis, all of this process enables Zara to meet customer's needs and be ahead of its rivals. The research is not traditional research, but it includes email and phone calls from various stores to head office, to which Zara manufacturing machinery responds by designing the proposed item within 2 weeks time. Thus we can see, that it is the lead time and keeping up with the fashion trends which makes Zara the leader of the fashion industry. Low Risk Low Production Normally any proposed item (apparel) among other retailers is made in bulk, which always has the risk being a failure. Zara reduces this risk by producing in lesser quantity, thus instead of going for bulk production, it prefers fewer items. This approach gives Zara's double benefit, such as lesser risk and creating more demand by making artificial scarcity, which means it can charge more and earn extra profit. It is natural with all objects especially fashion products; they become more desirable making them more profitable for the company. Normally it is very rare to find a product in its early launch days, a customer has to request the item, which is taken into notice by the store manager and produced within a shortest period of time. Another benefit of this approach is that if the product does sell well, it can be easily scarped back due to lesser quantity, which is not possible for other retailers or in some cases it is moved to another location, where it is selling well. Leading in Innovation As for other retailers their profits comes through mass sale and bulk production. Zara instead produce more styles (new items) than any other retail store and generates profit through greater number rather than bulk production. For
